Sally was a popular and valued member of the executive team and did a great deal to promote boating and sailing issues - activities which she herself loved.

Defra Publishes the Maintenance Dredging Protocol 18/02/2008
Marina and Boatyard operators that undertake maintenance dredging in coastal locations should be aware that Defra have recently published the Maintenance Dredging Protocol. This Protocol is intended to streamline the consents process for regular and routine application for consents to undertake maintenance dredging in or adjacent to Special Protection Areas (SPA’s) and/or Special Areas of Conservation (SAC’s) (i.e. environmentally sensitive sites designated under European Directives).

Coastal Marina Sector worth over £500 Million to UK Economy 10/12/2007
A new comprehensive study of coastal marinas in the UK and Channel Islands has revealed the vital role played by marinas in economic development. The report, entitled Economic Benefits of Coastal Marinas of the UK and Channel Islands, shows that the sector directly employs over 1,700 people, supports the employment of 22,000 more people and has a value added of over £500 million a year to the British economy. There are significant benefits to local economies in terms of supply chain businesses and tourist jobs.
TYHA – Which Marina? Stand – NO42G 07/12/2007
Once again, TYHA is delighted to announce that they have taken space at the Collins Stewart London Boat Show at Excel, Docklands. The Show, which runs from 11th to 20th January 2008 is going to be a great success. The Which Marina? Stand covers 155 sq.m of space and has been designed with care and attention by Simon Jordon from Evolution Exhibitions. Situated in the North Hall, accessed via doors N5 and N7, the Stand has a privileged position and looks forward to receiving many visitors.

BMF Red Diesel Update 01/12/2007
The British Marine Federation is continuing to work with Government to ensure a suitable outcome regarding the loss of the Red Diesel derogation for private pleasure boats. As part of its ongoing work, the BMF has recently submitted its response to HMRC's Consultation.It outlines its preferred option of self regulation, which would have the minimum impact on the industry as it would permit fuel suppliers to continue to retail fuel at the rebated rate to recreational boaters, requiring the individual to declare the additional duty due periodically. This is the industry's preferred option as it limits the cost, bureaucratic and compliance burden on marine companies who supply fuel.

BMF Tourism Summit 04/05/2007
Nearly 40 delegates, including a wide range of BMF members with an interest in Tourism, attended the BMF Tourism Summit in Peterborough on 2nd May 2007. The aim of the conference was to review the current BMF Tourism Strategy and find ways of raising the profile of boating related tourism.

NO RED DIESEL REBATE 01/02/2007
By now, we feel that almost everybody knows that the EU have rejected the UK Government’s application to renew the UK’s derogation on red diesel for private recreational boaters. The BMF and RYA have met with HM Revenue and Customs officials to discuss the way forward now the decision has been made.

RED DIESEL UPDATE 21/12/2006
The BMF has received a letter from HM Treasury Minister, John Healey MP which confirms that there will be no immediate change from 1 January 2007 as the Government will need to take time to implement the decision taken by the European Commission. A copy of the Minister's letter is attached together with a statement issued by the BMF.

Some members have had confusing messages from their fuel suppliers suggesting that they will not be able to supply red diesel at a lower rate of duty from 1 January. That is not the case. The BMF has contacted the Federation of Petroleum Suppliers who have put out a clear message to their members and on their website www.fpsonline.co.uk
Seeing Red – disappointing news for boaters 13/12/2006
The news on Thursday 8 December that the EU Commission has rejected the UK’s application for the retention of the current derogation on red diesel is very disappointing. It will have an impact on the boating market and business implications for some companies in the industry.

The Seeing Red Campaign, run by the British Marine Federation (BMF), the RYA and the Inland Waterways Association (IWA) was successful in many respects. Through our efforts the UK Government recognised and accepted the problems that the loss of the derogation would bring and fought for the derogation to be retained. However, despite the considerable efforts of the campaign partners and the Government, we were unable to halt the EU’s march on tax harmonisation.
Marine Consents - Latest News for TYHA Members 01/12/2006
BMF were recently involved in a 1:1 meeting with the Marine Consents and Environment Unit. Represented by Mike Ward of Marina Projects Limited, BMF put a marker down about the need for a dramatic improvement in performance from MCEU in view of the recent significant uplift in FEPA licence fees and their move to full cost recovery.

DEFRA Announces Fee Rises For Marine Licensing 03/08/2006
The fees for marine industry environmental licences have increased from 24 July 2006. The decision to implement the fee rises for disposal licensing will allow Defra to fully recover it's costs.
