Successful TYHA Inland Marina Conference 18-10-2008
Once again, TYHA are happy to announce a very successful Inland Marina Conference which took place on Wednesday 15th October 2008 at Warwick Castle.

Held in the attractive town of Warwick, The Georgian Coach House venue proved to be interesting and centrally placed for Inland Waterway Marinas. The event gave an overall feel for the level of activity on the Inland Waterways and also proved to be an excellent networking opportunity.

Those present enjoyed hearing from very knowledgeable speakers who spoke openly about their business experiences and gave a real guide to the present economic conditions and difficulties within the industry.

During the day, the BMF launched their recent study of Economic Benefits of Inland Marinas in the UK, which was undertaken with assistance from British Waterways, the Environment Agency, the Broads Authority and, of course, The Yacht Harbour Association and many Member Marinas.

The Report presents a national assessment of the economic significance and impacts of inland marinas in the UK with a series of detailed case studies, based on primary research, providing contributions to the local economy.

Those present heard presentation from:-
  • Andy White, GHK Consulting introducing the BMF Economic Benefits Study of Inland Marinas
  • Ed Helps, ABC leisure Group giving details of his marina’s case study
  • Neil Warren, Land and Water Group on the Future Prospects for Inland Marina Development
  • Tim Parker, Black Prince Holidays on Hire Fleets
  • Tim Coghlan, Braunston Marina on British Narrowboat Building and the Impact on Inland Marina Moorings – Present and Past
  • Keith Lovett, E.Coleman & Co Ltd on Insurance and Finance
  • Nigel Sheppard, British Waterways on their New Marinas Unit
At the end of the day, the Navigation Authorities got together and presented and discussed the Current Issues and The Future of the Inland Waterways. The Representatives here were Angela Quayle, Environment Agency; John Packman, Broads Authority and Simon Salem, British Waterways.

All the sessions were professionally chaired by Sam Bourne, TYHA Chairman and Arthur Bennett from Willowtree Marina.

As well as the Conference itself, a Mini Exhibition of Marina Products took place, giving attendees to make contact with the following companies:-

Towergate Mardon; ASAP Supplies; Triangle (Berth Brokers); Lee Sanitation; Wave Seven Marine; Maricer CPES; Intermarine; Ravensworth Digital; Kudos Software and Groves John & Westrup.

Also, during the lunch period, there was an opportunity to take a complimentary visit around Warwick Castle itself.

All in all, a great day was enjoyed by 80 attendees and 10 exhibitors. We look forward to arranging another Conference in due course at a different locality.
