Helping the Best Become Better
The British Marine Federation (BMF), in conjunction with the Yacht Harbour Association, presents the internationally renowned Advanced Marina Management School.
The fees for marine industry environmental licences have increased from 24 July 2006. The
decision to implement the fee rises for disposal licensing will allow Defra to fully recover it's costs. It follows a 12 week consultation.
The consultation considered each licence component in detail, examining how fees are built to
recover full cost to the regulator.
There will be:
An overall average 22% increase in disposal licence fees
No increase to the second and third year instalments of long term disposal licence fees
No increase to the construction licence fees for this financial year
A 3% increase in fees for oil spill treatment products
A pilot investigation into the possibility of chemical analyses of dredging samples to be
carried out by accredited laboratories other than just the Centre for Environment Fisheries and
Aquaculture Science laboratories
A desk study investigating how port dredging and disposal management programmes can be implemented for a number of years under a core licence
"Quick wins" for service improvement, to ensure an improved service delivery system is in
place.
BMF responded to the consultation in April highlighting a concern about the level of increases for
marina businesses (32%) and are currently seeking clarification on the schedule of proposed
licence fees. For more information contact Sally Banham on 01784 223729 or visit www.britishmarine.co.uk/government
